The bar is located between the jetties at a river entrance to the ocean.. It can be / is one of the most dangerous places on a river.
Bar conditions can change from flat calm to extremely rough within minutes. The bar is influenced by tide changes, moon phases, wind and river currents. When crossing the bar in a boat extreme caution should be used and life vest are recommend at all times. The Coast Guard monitors channel 16 on the VHF radio. They broadcast most updated bar conditions on channel 22 on the VHF about every couple hours during daylight hours. So remember follow all the rules when planning to cross the bar.
